4-6 April: Auckland Arrivals

Hi all!

So it’s officially happened. We are now overseas, although the friendly people, the relaxed atmosphere, and the similar (but still yet funny) accents make us feel like we’ve never left! Currently Kam and I are sitting in an awesome pub built in 1864, sipping down some local ales, and munging on a bowl of chunky fries, soaking up our first day O/S.

The flight was pretty insignificant, only 3 hours to get here, but unfortunately we still had to go through the same brouhaha in terms of customs, passports and paperwork as any international flight. Kam was happy however as she got to use her “ePassport” for it’s intended purpose as I waited with the plebs getting asked questions such as “What is the capital city of NZ?” – it’s Hobbiton right?

We were both pretty chuffed with our bags. Only 14kg and 12kg for myself and Kam respectively, which is pretty impressive considering we have tents, sleeping bags and all the rest of our camping paraphernalia! Also it’s crazy considering Qantas allows us to carry 2 x 23kg bags each, and Kam gets extra allowance for being a Qantas club member! Translation, we are allowed 4 times more luggage, which is scary – No shopping sprees Kam!

We arrived in late, so we pretty much headed to our hotel in the CBD, and bunked down after a quick walk around the city. Today we have pretty much checked out Auckland, did an island cruise through the bays around Auckland. Crap weather, but a great insight to Auckland and its harbour!

We’re picking up our car tomorrow, and heading to Rotorua for some hot springs and a smidge of camping! Looking forward to it, but for now, I’m looking forward to finishing off the 3L “tower of Beer” Peace kiddies!!

Scratch you soon!
